Put your own sounds into your FM-1

Drop WAV, MP3, OGG or FLAC files here, choose a slot (MY 1 to MY 4), and send them to your FM-1 over USB. The page makes them what KAWA stores: mono, 22 kHz, 8 bits, up to 1.66 seconds. Nothing leaves your computer.

The FM-1 is not found? Choose its MIDI ports

The page looks for a port named FM-1, Felucca or KAWA. If your system names it otherwise, pick it here, then connect again.

What happens to a sound, and how to use it
    • It is mixed to mono and brought to 22 050 Hz (or 11 025 Hz if you choose Longer: twice as long, duller). WAV files are read by this page, exactly as install/kawa_samples.py does; other formats are decoded by your browser.
    • The silence before the sound is removed, the sound is normalised to 95 %, cut to the slot (36 608 bytes: 1.66 s at 22 kHz, 3.3 s at 11 kHz) with a very short fade at the end, and stored as 8-bit mu-law, like KAWA's own breaks. The waveform and Play show exactly that result.
    • Name: up to 11 characters (A-Z, 0-9, space and _ - . ! + #). It is what the FM-1 shows.
    • On the FM-1: a track's SOUND page (EDIT), engine SAMPLE, SOURCE = MY 1 to MY 4.
    • The samples live in the FM-1's flash: they stay when it is switched off, and are not part of a project file.
    • Without a browser: python3 install/kawa_samples.py put 1 kick.wav does the same.
